What is Dru Meditation

What is Dru Meditation

What is Dru Meditation?

Dru Meditation is about finding a still inner point from which you can look at the world in a different way and discover a fresh, new perspective on your life. You'll discover powerful breathing techniques, kriyas and concentration techniques.

Dru takes you deeply into the science of meditation...

Discover your inner stillness

In Dru Meditation you will learn to access a deep inner peace, no matter what challenges you may be facing in life.

Dru takes you deeply into the science of meditation, showing how to bring your awareness from the physical body, through to the deepest layers of your being. Dru meditation uniquely makes a focus of the five koshas, which are the different levels through which we experience the world.

What makes Dru meditation special?

So you’ve tried a few types of meditation, and enjoyed the stress-relieving benefits. But have you tried Dru Meditation yet? And do you know how Dru Meditation is different from other styles of meditation?

We like to define meditation as the perfect balance between alertness and relaxation. It doesn’t matter if you practise in a chair or sitting cross legged on the floor, it’s all about quietening the mind and stilling the body.

We've been teaching mindful awareness since the early 1980s where we taught Vipassana retreats to help people start their journey into mediation. Over many years and through training thousands of teachers in yoga and meditation, we've now refined our style into three main stages.

The Stages of Dru Meditation

Stage 1 - Mindfulness
Dru Meditation, in common with many other types of meditation, starts with a gentle awareness of the body and breath. This mindful awareness reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, chronic pain and insomnia. Conscious engagement of this stage of Dru Meditation will help you to become fully adept at mindfulness in your every day life.

Stage 2 - Mindfulness for understanding consciousness

The next stage of Dru Meditation takes us from just observing our mind to understanding the vast landscape of our consciousness, described in the yogic tradition through models such as chakras and koshas. This more refined level of practice, helps you understand how the body, energy, emotions and thought are linked.

Stage 3 - Design and mastery

In the third stage of Dru Meditation you will learn to transform your consciousness by learning to become the master of your emotions and mind. You’ll learn advanced breathing techniques, mantras and kriyas which will empower your strengths and help you to deeply know yourself.

Therapist & Dru Yoga teacher, Richmond, Uk

This course has taken EBR 1 to a completely different level of understanding alignment of the energy centres. The deep relaxation techniques and sitting techniques will be beneficial to my students in preparation for meditation. The stories are really inspiring. I took the Dru Meditation online course for my personal development and have found it easier to include meditation into my daily yoga practice now. I have so enjoyed it that I would like to take the Meditation teacher training course.

Dru Meditation & the 5 koshas (levels of consciousness)

Anamaya kosha (physical body) – using mindful awareness, you will learn to sit comfortably and relax at will, balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems so you remain alert yet relaxed.

Pranamaya kosha (energy body) – powerful breathing techniques such as Sama vritti, the three fold breath and Savitri pranayma will enable you to build up your energy and health.

Manomaya kosha (emotional body) – Dru’s kriyas and meditation techniques will help you become the master of your emotions, enabling you to access passion and willpower so you can choose how you feel in any moment.

Vijnaanamaya kosha (intellectual body) – Using the ancient power of mantra and japa, you will awaken your inner wisdom body, where intuition and your life’s purpose become clear.

Anandamaya kosha (blissful body) – using Dru’s subtle meditation methods, you will experience the joy of your higher self, however you perceive it.

The best way to start learning Dru Meditation is by attending a workshop or meditation retreat, either in beautiful Snowdonia or around the UK. If that's not practical, then try a guided Dru Meditation on CD. No matter how you start, you'll find that Dru Meditation can help wash away stress and fatigue and bring calm and focus. Even 10 minutes of meditation a day can make a huge difference. And it doesn't need to be uncomfortable, boring or weird - try some Dru Meditation here to find out!

If you're already a fan of meditation and would like to take it a bit further, then consider the Dru Meditation teacher training course - enabling you to become a meditation teacher yourself.

Prana and Pranayama
A very effective way to begin to calm the mind for your meditation practice is to do pranayama or breathing techniques. In this blog we deeply explore prana (our energy or life-force) and pranayama (the tools used to enhance and direct it to improve our health and wellbeing).
