“Change only happens in the present moment. The past is already done. The future is just energy and intention.” ― Kino MacGregor
Understanding our habits and the functioning of our brain  According to some psychologists, 95% of our daily actions are habitual. This means that most of our actions happen automatically. Like getting up in the morning, brushing your teeth, driving your car, these are all things we do every day without even thinking about it. Remember that we live in a distracting world and our brain has a natural tendency to go into automatic pilot. This is when our subconscious drives our behavior, and we are less active in the process of making choices about how we act. The great news is that our yoga practice brings us a greater awareness of these driving... more

“My training in yoga gave me the courage to set up Dru Yoga in Leeds and train over 200 people"

Mona Fairholme.
Listen to the full interview here > or read the highlights below.  Radha: I know from visiting you in Leeds...it was incredible to feel the warmth and love between the team you have created there.  Mona: Yes it's a joy to see people change and step into their personal power. Radha: Was there a moment where you decided - yes I want to dedicate my life to this? Mona: Yes, it was teaching a whole group at a time. I wanted to reach more people than I was doing as a reflexologist; training in yoga enables you to teach a lot of people a skill they can use to help themselves.  Radha: It’s an answer to our yearning to really help people isn't it people... more

'Gemma was devastated by her son’s serious illness and hospitalisation. Then her yoga teacher gave her some very practical advice. To chant the Gayatri Mantra every day. Hardly believing such simplicity could work she nevertheless went outside, stood by a tree, and chanted the Gayatri. Somehow, as she focussed her intention on her son's wellbeing, her own pain seemed to vanish. Thankfully her son did recover and Gemma still chants the Gayatri every day 30 years later. She says she's never now without the feeling of inner joy that comes with her daily chanting of the Gayatri.'

This account of the Gayatri Mantra is a serious spirit lifter. When life feels challenging, it's a great reminder that we can move from pain to joy – through simple, yet profound practices. What... more

I like to think of the Manipura chakra as our POWER centre. Located above the navel and below the diaphragm in the solar plexus region of the body, it is often called the solar centre. Sometimes it is called the jewelled city or the lustrous gem. For those who see the colours of their chakras, we are moving from the orange of swadhisthana to the bright yellow of manipura.  Whenever it is out of balance we may experience any of the following: fatigue digestive disorders (including irritable bowel and constipation) diabetes, eating disorders, ulcers  liver issues, gallstones, lack of confidence or low self-esteem far too submissive, far too aggressive  bullying and/or controlling behaviours   being the victim, being judgemental  critical of others, stubborn unable to accept... more

Vishuddhi, the throat chakra, located within the neck and expanding down towards the shoulders and up into the area of the mouth and lower part of the face... its sanskrit translation: visha = impurity, poison suddhi = purify
So, located at that critical point between the heart and the mind, it is all about communication. We may have swallowed and suppressed all sorts of toxic problems and unpleasant experiences during the course of our lives which need to be purified. When Vishuddhi is in perfect balance we are able to express the pure truth coming up from our hearts. We listen carefully to others and to our own hearts and are able to express ourselves clearly.
The element of Vishuddhi is akasha (ether or space) and whilst it cannot be seen or touched, it can certainly be... more

‘It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold... when it is summer in the light and winter in the shade.' Charles Dickens I have definitely been so aware of the warmth of the sun over recent days, of its power and brilliance, and I am also aware that we are in the period of the full moon as I write!  I am no astrophysicist, but I fully appreciate that these two celestial bodies are of huge importance to life on earth. Moreover, I have some understanding and knowledge of the ancient science of yoga which acknowledges the impact which both the sun and the moon have on our lives.
We have many energy channels, or nadis, within us (and here I am talking about our energy bodies of course). The 3 main channels are called ida, pingala and sushumna and... more

I love that my yoga training has enhanced so many areas of my life. I had this feeling before I started the course that something was missing... I trained as a Dru Yoga teacher about 11 years ago. Since completing the Dru Yoga teacher training I have felt more present and have a deeper understanding of myself; my practice continues to help me trust in the process of life unfolding in a positive way. I remember hearing about Dru Yoga when Dr. Hilary Jones recommended Dru as a form of yoga particularly beneficial for back health. With a sports massage therapy background it felt like the right kind of yoga training for me. At the time it was between Dru Yoga and another school and  I knew as soon as I started to research Dru that it was right for me. I hadn’t even been to a Dru class... more
