Discover the greatness of this part of the field of consciousness - the part of you that knows how to move in any direction, to direct your awareness towards new and wonderful ideas, the part of you that knows how to allow the mind to become quiet. And in the midst of true Stillness, you may even hear the sound of the Infinite, the 'unstruck sound', the great Anahata.

So many yoga enthusiasts tell me about their challenges in doing a regular meditation or yoga practice. Despite our best intentions, many of us find that life can get in the way, or we get distracted, and our practice is the first thing to suffer. As an example, here’s a typical morning in my house... My alarm goes off. It’s nice and early and I have great intentions of having a refreshing spiritual morning of yoga, meditation and a healthy Ayurvedic breakfast before walking mindfully to work. Fast forward 90 minutes, and I’m rushing to leave the house, a bit flustered and barely having time for a quick shower and bite of breakfast. What got in the way? Well, a few WhatsApp messages, some essential Facebook posting and a bit of cleaning… and my meditation has faded into the dust of time... more

For many years we have explored the multitude of the physical benefits of yoga, and of course, the very calming effects of meditation. But maybe you, like me, have also heard whispers of ‘energy’ in your yoga class... Or perhaps you’ve felt something that was a little beyond the realm of the ‘normal’ and physical? Now, we’re all familiar with energy – it is everywhere around us, from the light bulbs in the ceiling through to our phone battery. And we even have many, many, ways of generating it, from nuclear fusion through to wind and waves. But – that energy is not what we mean when we talk about prana. In a nutshell prana (an ancient sanskrit term) refers to our vital life-force or energy. Pranayama is said to be the way for us to tap into that energy and enhance it for a better quality... more

I always experience an upsurge of joy when I see signs of spring, especially after a harsh winter. I’ve been asking myself how to actively increase that feeling of happiness even when life is challenging or when it’s raining. According to recent research, meditation seems to be an answer, as it seems to be the only activity which resets the brain’s happiness set point. As a meditation teacher trainer and psychology graduate, my ears always prick up when I hear that we can change our minds in relatively simple ways. According to neuroscientists, we all have a natural set point for happiness, based on our genes and conditioning. Although we may feel temporary joy or sadness from a change of circumstances, we will keep returning to our baseline happiness level or set point. This is the... more

When humanity sets out to create unity the results are awesome. In fact when you look at the statistics, 99% of the world is at peace! Humanity has made stunning progress towards building unity, collaboration and health for all in the last 100 years... and when we build on this positivity we help it grow.  So when we hear news of suffering, terrorism or poverty, perhaps the greatest thing we can do in response is to add positivity to the world.  Here are just a few ideas for you - and feel free to add your own in the comments at the bottom of the page.   1. Give peace a chance Go to a time when you felt completely happy, fulfilled and at peace with yourself and the world. Re-live that feeling as fully as you can. Let it fill your body and mind. BE peace. Direct that peace out... more

How often do we tell ourselves we'll keep a daily meditation practice going, but it’s so easy to simply fall out of the habit. Maybe you've had an illness or there's a change of routine like the summer holidays or at Christmas, or another life event we can’t control. We might just be too busy or stressed or upset to keep our practice going. No matter what the reasons for quitting meditation were, here are some simple tips to get you back in the groove.   1. Keep it simple
Our minds can exaggerate how complicated it is to restart our practice, so we keep putting off doing it. One way to beat that natural resistance is by making it absolutely simple – just light a candle. Sit for 10 breaths. Just sit on my meditation cushion for 1 minute. The more achievable and easy that first... more
