Here are a couple of recipes to lend a helping hand to everyone who (like me and Samia) are staying at home. As it's not so easy to restock your cupboard these days, I've started filming these quick and easy cookery lessons in our kitchen.

  The Recipes
Day 1: One-Pot Vegetable and Lentil Stew
It's the perfect way to make a substantial meal using only a few ingredients that you should have in your kitchen already. The great thing is that at first it’s a hearty soup which you can enjoy with some bread, vegetables and salad.  This food is very economical too. Because of the lentils and stock, it expands as you cook it. It becomes like the never-emptying pot—however much you take out there still seems to be some left.

I spent two months at the Dru Yoga Centre in Snowdonia, Wales and I can say those two months were life changing… As a volunteer I worked in Dimensions health food shop in Bangor and in the accommodation office reception. Working in the health food shop gave me loads of new opportunities to learn new skills  and gave me chance to experience a working environment that I hope one day I can reproduce in my own business ventures. Working in reception gave me another set of experiences. It really helped me build up my confidence and improve my people and communications skills. In general I helped around whenever I could and did a few odd jobs here and there: I worked In the kitchen, I cleaned the pond, I even helped put up Christmas decorations. Everything is quite relaxed and the work is... more

There are as many weight loss plans and theories as there are people eating!! This health tip looks at  – the gut or small intestine (5 metres long). This is the primary area of impact; the place where all your food arrives in preparation for distribution! The more relaxed this organ is, the better our ability to absorb food. The more easily we absorb food, the greater the amount of nutrients that enter the body and the less we need to eat in order for the body to feel nourished and satisfied. In other words – relax and you will naturally eat less! I believe that as a nation we are suffering from malnutrition. What you might say! Well, even though we eat plenty, due to the stress and tension of the gut, there is an inability to absorb our nutrients. Therefore we eat more to feel... more

How often do we hear these phrases; ‘whistle while you work' and 'laughter is the best medicine' These are all phrases we drop into our everyday language, but is there a little bit of science behind such thoughts? Studies have shown that smiling boosts your immune system by stimulating your body to produce more white blood cells (WBC). Hospitalised children visited by story-tellers and puppeteers who made them smile and laugh had higher WBC counts than children who weren’t visited. Smiling lowers stress levels and anxiety. When endorphins are released the level of cortisol in your body is reduced. Studies also show that smiling when you are in a stressful situation lowers your heart rate, which will relax you and reduce your unpleasant feelings of stress and anxiety. Smiling... more
