Dru Yoga tip 63 - Using affirmations to create change

Would you like to change something about the way you act in the world? We can start today using positive affirmations to help create very real changes in our life. Today's Dru Yoga tip for life can help you achieve almost anything: using affirmations.

In Dru Yoga we often use affirmations, so we thought we would explore the power of this simple technique. Did you know that there are about a hundred billion neurons in an average adult brain, each of which can make perhaps 5,000 to 10,000 synaptic connections with other neurons, which makes a total of about five hundred trillion to a thousand trillion synapses? Incredible huh!?

Every thought we think, alters the connections within that vast network as does every sensation we experience. Synapses are strengthened or weakened or formed anew. Our physical substance changes. Indeed, it is always changing, every moment, even as we sleep.*

So, we can start to see how making positive affirmations can help create very real change in our life.

Using affirmation

  • Think of something you really need more of this week - maybe love, peace, health, energy.
  • Create a simple one line sentence that encompasses this desire. Here are some examples: "I am un-conditionally loving"; "I bring abundant love into my life"; "I am filled with peace - I am peace;" "I radiate with health, vitality and energy."
  • Repeat this to yourself at least three times a day for a whole week (or longer if you want!)

It's as simple as that! To give the affirmation even more power you might like to choose one of the postures from a past tip, and make the affirmation to yourself while in the posture.
