Dru Yoga students learn the Pigeon breath

Dru Sound & Mantra course

The breath forms the basis of all the sounds we make

Breath & breathing exercises

The breath forms the basis of all the sounds we make, both speaking and singing. Knowledge of how to use the breath brings with it the power to control the sound in your voice. Students will learn essential breathing techniques to facilitate the expansion and utilisation of this power.

Toning

Toning is a powerful way to tune up the voice; to learn how to stabilise and empower the voice and use it as a healing instrument for oneself and others.

Listening skills

Learn how to listen to the voice so as to be able to understand ones own physical emotional and spiritual health. Deep listening exercises not only enhance awareness and appreciation of sound and music, but also greatly improve relationships with other people.

The principles of resonance and entrainment

Jane Saraswati Clapham, Dru Sound senior tutor

Rhythm, melody & harmony

The threefold song

Resonance is the most important principle of sound. Students will learn this principle in depth and the skill of using and directing resonant sound to entrain and bring organs and bodily systems back into balance.

The principles of rhythm, melody and harmony - the threefold song

Rhythm is the pulse of life and affects everything in our lives. Steady, directed rhythms restore the body's rhythms when they are out of balance.  Students will explore different rhythms and how they affect our physical and emotional wellbeing as well as our consciousness.

Melody whether spoken or sung or played on an instrument, soothes and alters emotional and mental states. Singing melodies restores balance and cleanses our energy of negativity.

Harmony is capable of lifting our consciousness into the realm of spiritual awareness. Working with harmony provides the key to altering, shifting and transmuting energy. Like an alchemist, we turn the lead of our life into gold by finding the right combinations of tones, rhythms and harmonies.

Healing with sound

The threefold song

Like an alchemist, we turn the lead of our life into gold by finding the right combinations of tones, rhythms and harmonies.

The voice is the purest instrument there is and once purity and stability are developed, the voice can be used as a powerful healing modality

Year 2 will give a deep understanding of how sound can heal, exploring the healing potential of frequency, tone, resonance and sensitivity. Students will be taught how to become sensitive to energy changes and thereby facilitate energy shifts – both within themselves and others.

Sacred sound, mantra and chanting

There is a science to learning the power of sacred words and mantras to help to heal emotions, empower creativity, increase self-esteem and confidence, overcome shyness and communication blocks and to be able to speak with power, clarity and confidence in public.

Connect with the deeper part of yourself

Meditation, movement & sound

There is a sacred relationship between sound and meditation and learning how this relationship works provides the practitioner with a great skill to connect to the deepest part of themselves to facilitate personal transformation. Combining movement with sound further enhances the experience of inner stillness while facilitating an expansion of the sound one is able to make.

The importance of pitch and timbre

We all have our own natural pitch and this course will help students to find theirs. There is also a universal pitch that helps us to bring about a resonance with a more spiritual aspect. Timbre represents the quality of sound that helps us to distinguish one sound from another. Students will learn how to control the timbre of the voice to create a desired effect.

The creation of vocal harmonics is an art form. Overtones are powerful healing sounds that not only shift energy very effectively, but also can be used as a means to expanded awareness and a powerful tool for meditation. Students will learn only the basics of  overtoning in this course which will be expanded upon in more depth in the third year advanced course, available only to graduates of the basic two-year diploma course.

The sounds of the chakras

Each centre of power in the body contains specific sounds that resonate with that centre. Knowledge of these sounds gives the student of sound access to the deeper aspects of their energy system.
